My second oldest sister has a gift when it comes to baking. She just has this vision where she is able to make something out of nothing and throw a few things together and make a masterpiece. She reminds me a lot of my yiayia.
She also has a gift where she is able to make incredible creations like wedding cakes. More specifically, my wedding cake. It was gorgeous and delicious and meant the world to me because my sister put the time, love, and effort, into making that cake. Almost three years later and I am still looking forward to defrosting it and taking a bite come our anniversary.
So, since I am in town I wanted to get together with my second oldest sister to create a cake or dessert for my oldest sister since it was just her birthday about 10 days ago. Well, I was lucky enough to have both of my sisters with me and we all baked a delicious salted caramel custard tart together.
Not only were the sisters together but we were recreating a Paula Deen recipe- what could be better, right?! It's not often I don't mess with a recipe or find another recipe to mesh with another but any time it's a Paula Deen recipe, I stick to the script. Once thing I did not realize was that the tart needs to sit for at least 8 hours so I unfortunately haven't tried the actual final product but the custard and the crust individually were delicious before getting into the fridge.
I would post the recipe but I left my magazine at my sister house.. so the final verdict of the tart and the recipe will have to get posted tomorrow.
All in all, a day spent with my sisters is the best day. These are the days I miss the most but the ones I'll cherish forever.
