Day 50: Caramelized Onion Alfredo Burgers

After all of the sweets this weekend I needed something salty and was craving a burger. I didn't add a bun to it because I would rather have the extra calories in cheese rather then the bun. This burger was salty and smoky and had a really nice sear on it. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics during the process because I was really hungry and forgot... but I have some of the final result! This burger was delicious, I especially love the basil in it, makes it nice and fresh but still very savory. Enjoy!

*Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 vadalia onion
1 TBS sugar
2 TBS butter
salt/pepper to taste
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
4 TBS basil
4 TBS Alfredo sauce (I used a store bought can)
4 TBS mozzarella cheese
Zest of 1 lemon
2 TBS lemon juice
1/4 cup Greek yogurt
4 TBS bacon bits

*Instructions
In a medium skillet, add sliced onion with butter. Cook until translucent and then add the sugar. Continue to cook onions for about 15 minutes, until caramelized; set aside.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large bowl, add ground beef and seasonings. Mix together with hands until incorporated, try not to over work. Form into even patties; cook about 15-20 minutes, until preferred temperature.
While burgers are cooking mix together Greek yogurt, lemon juice, zest, and salt/pepper to taste. Chop basil; set aside. When burgers are done cooking, add 1 TBS Alfredo sauce, caramelized onion, bacon bits, mozzarella cheese, dollop of Greek yogurt mix, and top with sliced basil. Pair with potatoes or veggies or your favorite side.
Enjoy!
