My husband, his best friend, and I went out to dinner the
other night and we had these delicious French Onion Soup Dumplings and just
needed to recreate them! We got together tonight and I figured it was a good
time to try out the recipe.
I will be making some adjustments for next time but in all,
the flavor was pretty delicious and we will definitely be making them again.
*Ingredients
Wonton wrappers (24)
2 Vadallia Onions
Small pack of Scallions
1 red onion
2 TBS fresh Thyme
½ cup white wine
1 cup beef broth
2 TBS minced onion
Salt/pepper
1 TBS sugar
1 TBS butter
1 TBS extra virgin olive oil
¼ cup Gruyere cheese
Directions
In a large saute pan, add butter and olive oil. On
medium/low heat add your onion, salt/pepper, and sugar and cook for about 30-45
minutes. Keep an eye out to ensure your onions don’t burn and feel free to
lower your heat to low to ensure caramelization.
Add your white wine, beef broth, thyme, and garlic. Cook for
another 30 minutes on medium/low. Continue to stir every now and again to
ensure you’re not burning your onions.
Strain your onions to separate your broth.
Preheat oven to broil. Once your onions are room temperature
take your wonton wrappers out of the fridge and line a baking sheet with
aluminum foil.
Place a mini muffin tin on top of your lined baking sheet.
Add a drop of your broth to your wonton wrapper and spread sauce along the
entire top side. Add about 1-2 tsp of your caramelized onions and bring in 2
opposite corners of your wonton wrappers and then the other two opposite
corners to make a little pouch.
Ensure your pouch is tightly closed and place in greased
mini muffin tin, seam side down. Once your entire pan is filled. Drizzle
spoonfuls of your broth on top of the dumplings and then sprinkle on your
Gruyere cheese and garnish with a sprinkle of Thyme. Place your baking sheet
with mini muffins on the top rack of your oven and broil for about 5 minutes,
until the top of your pan has a golden color.
Enjoy!
